Impulsos reformistas republicanos: missões de estudo no estrangeiro tuteladas pelos Ministérios do Interior e da Instrução Pública (1911-1918)
Abstract
This article highlights the importance that study missions abroad assumed for republican reformersin two different moments (1911-1912 and 1918) and under the tutelage, respectively, of the Ministry
of the Interior and the Ministry of the Public Instruction. In the first case, the scope of the
ministry's intervention was very wide. However, the awarded grants focused on the area of medicine.
In the second case, the Reform of Alfredo de Magalhães (1918) enshrines scholarships for secondary
education teachers. I argue that the grants awarded in 1911-1912 were more consequential, namely in
medicine area, since they were part of already existing dynamics.
