Sociabilidade burguesa em Viana do Castelo na segunda metade do século XIX:
a assembleia vianense
Abstract
Ao longo da segunda metade do século XIX, a Assembleia Vianense tornouse
no principal lugar de sociabilidade da burguesia de Viana do Castelo. Este
espaço de convívio decorreu da necessidade de reforçar a sua coesão.
Integraram-na as figuras de maior notoriedade da cidade, para além de uma
pequena burguesia associada ao funcionalismo público. A endogamia foi
elemento preponderante neste círculo, e a acção dos seus sócios repercutiu-
-se na vida pública local e nacional.
