The birth of a devotion and its promoters in the 19th century XVIII
the Lord Santo Cristo de Ponta Delgada
Abstract
O objetivo deste trabalho é identificar os principais promotores da devoção ao busto do Senhor Santo Cristo dos Milagres de Ponta Delgada, Açores, no séc. XVIII, e como, alguns deles, vivenciaram a devoção e a promoveram. As festas anuais em honra desta Imagem, que remete para o momento da paixão de Cristo, no passo do Ecce Homo, são a maior demonstração de fé do catolicismo açoriano no séc. XX. Por iniciativa dos promotores setecentistas, de modo deliberado e intencional, criaram o espaço e a simbologia da Imagem, permitiram congregar, promover e divulgar o culto, alimentando a devoção coletiva, familiar e individual.
