Sociology, sociologists and the political field: a sociological approach to the Portuguese case

Abstract

This article takes a sociological approach to the relationship between sociology and sociologists and the political field in Portugal. It focuses in particular on two dimensions of this relationship: sociology applied to public policies and the participation of sociologists in the political class. In the final section, it suggests an agenda for further sociological research not only on these two dimensions, but also on the relationship between sociologists and social movements and on the contribution of sociology to the consolidation of democratic political values.
