Colonialismo-tardio, pós-colonialismo e cultura popular nos subúrbios de Maputo: um olhar a partir da marrabenta (1945-1987)
Abstract
The article explores bibliographical debates, especially in the historiographical field and based on the social history approach, produced about late colonialism (1945-1975) and the postcolonial era (1975-1987) in Maputo, establishing a dialogue with the applicability of the concept of “popular culture” for the studies of the African contemporary past. For this, I also examine
scholarship that has focused investigation on some aspects related to the field of Mozambican artistic production, with a focus on the bibliography dedicated especially to the analysis of various aspects of the formation, creation and consolidation of the musical rhythm denominated as marrabenta. This is a critical reading of the bibliography produced about the Mozambican
past that investigates the period between the 1950s and the 1980s, highlighting some critiques and possible new approaches.
Keywords: Colonialism, postcolonialism, popular culture, Mozambique.
