Abstract
Angola: Notes for a Social History of Culture
This paper is divided into two parts. The first presents a reflection about the historiographical production in the colonial period in Angola, especially in Portuguese, emphasizing what has been done and what remains to be done for a social history of culture. Although this article does not make a quantitative or exhaustive analysis of the historians’ production about Angola, it presents some considerations, based on my readings and impressions.
In the second part, some aspects of the colonial period in Angola are discussed, based on my own research. Rather than demonstrating paths already taken, the aim is to highlight the potential of the social history of culture for the understanding of the colonial society.
Keywords: Angola, Colonialism, Historiography, Social History of Culture.
