Ymaginatio in the Commentary on the De Anima Attributed to Petrus Hispanus
Resumo
This paper aims to place the role of the imagination in the Commentary, attributed to Petrus Hispanus (13th century), on Aristotle’s De Anima (Sententia cum questionibus in Aristotelis De anima I-II), within an Avicennian psychological framework. In fact, imagination, as it appears in the Sententia, results from the combination of this Avicennian theoretical background with Petrus Hispanus’ intent of preserving faithfulness to the Aristotelian text, as this study tries to show.
Key words: Imagination; Fantasy; Medieval Psychology; Inner Senses.
Ancient and Medieval Authors: Avicenna; Petrus Hispanus.
