RACONTER PAR INNUTRITION : USAGES DU FAIT DIVERS DANS CHRONIQUE JAPONAISE DE NICOLAS BOUVIER
Abstract
Things seen, anecdotes, sayings, “faits divers”: travel narratives are made with these forms of speech in which André Jolles saw elementary forms. The “fait divers” as elementary form has a particular function: as memorable form it is related with reality; it is meaningful by itself as well, included into the media world, but can be detached as a closed structure (Roland Barthes) with the ability to say the world. This paper analyzes the different ways in which Nicolas Bouvier uses the “fait divers” in his Japanese Chronicles: from the simple quotation to the complete absorption in Nicolas Bouvier’s Japanese chronicles, the “fait divers” appears as a
shape-shifting matter with the ability to inspire, feed and even form the travel narrative.
