Abstract

Tensions exist between humor and feminisms, which is the subject of our paper regarding four issues of Charlie Hebdo. First, we will take a look on theories concerning the liberty of speech and the possibility of laughing about anything, including women and feminisms, which is not something every feminist agrees on. Second, we analyse the caricatures on the front pages to evaluate the representations of the women characters and the feminisms. These front pages were issued in two different times, which shows the split between them, namely the 70’ and the years 2010: these editions are # 227 (1975) and # 342 (1977) as well as # 924 (2010) and # 1081 (2013).
