Regulado do Gabú (1900-1930): A difícil compatibilização entre legitimidades tradicionais e a reorganização do espaço colonial

Resumo

Through the description of the hardships the regulo of Gabú, Monjour Meta Balô, went through, and from the description of several events of the colonial administration’s policy, between 1900 and 1930, this article intends to gather the different nuances of colonial policy in what concerns the relationship with the indigenous chiefs and point out, in the particular case of Gabú, some of the reasons of the difficult compatibility, in those years, of the “realities” of local traditional powers and the need of reorganising the colonial space.
